The first Scofield Village School was built after 1876, but before 1900. The wooden-frame school was replaced by a fairly modern two-room building with central heating and modern facilities. This last school closed at the end of the 1967/68 school year. The closing of Scofield ended what had started at Bridge School in 1828. Monroe County's one-room school era ended at Scofield 140 years later. Scofield consolidated with Monroe Public and Airport Community Schools in 1967/68. The founders of Lay-Z-Boy furniture attended this school. It is no longer standing. Country Schools of Monroe Co: Scofield. The 1876 Scofield School, the last one-room schoolhouse to close in Monroe County, was torn-down and replaced with a brick school in 1961. Michigan Shadow Towns p. 116

The Palmer School appears on the 1859 map. It most likely was a log school. Around 1900 that building was replaced by a brick structure. The unusual brick design is almost identical to the design of Fryburg School in London Township. Palmer remained at the same location for its entire existence. Some time after the school consolidated in 1954/55 with Milan Area Schools, it was destroyed by a fire, probably set by vandals. Country Schools of Monroe Co: Palmer

Greening was a late Federal Works Progress Project (WPA) and constructed in 1939 as the 3rd school built in District #4. Due to overcrowding students had been attending half-day sessions. Greening was 40.5 ft x 33 ft and one-story high with a large basement for recreation and shop work. The building had electric lights, inside toilets, hot air furnace and a library room. WPA workers built the school for a cost of about $7,000. It was used for a little over 10 years before it was closed after consolidation to Custer in 1948/49. As with other schools it consolidated to Monroe in 1966/67. It now is a residence. Country Schools of Monroe Co: Greening

Original wooden-frame one-room school opened in 1868 in the center of the village (Sometimes called Center School) Around 1902 a new two-room wooden-frame school was built and the first school was sold to a cement block factory and moved. In 1917 a 3rd room was added, and in 1921 a basement was added under the school. At that time the school could teach grades K-12. In 1946 a fire destroyed the entire school. The next year Temperance consolidated with Bedford in 1947/48. Then the upper grade students attended Lambertville. Country Schools of Monroe Co: Temperance Village
