First school on the N side of the tracks near the bridge. The first teacher had 20 students. The school is well furnished with maps, a globe and in good shape in every way as reported in the the Mining Journal. The 2nd schoolhouse was a two-story building, the lower level for school and upstairs for a Community Center. Sunday School was held there as well. In 1892 two sisters from Midland County came to teach at Rock River. Alice had the Rock River School and Agnes the Hawley School. Rock River is now gone
