This new school replaced a log cabin school at the end of town. In 1933 the 7th and 8th graders were bussed to Munising. One teacher then taught the remaining 6 grades. Then those grades were divided into two sections, with that arrangement lasting until 1952 when grades 5th and 6th were also transferred to Munising. Annexed in 1961. School was closed and the building was sold to the Shingleton Recreation Club |

The students were on Christmas break. A new modern school was built with an auditorium, gymnasium and indoor swimming pool. This school was named after William G. Mather.
