Brewer was sometimes also referred to as Advance Grange. Brewer received its name from William Brewer, a prominent farmer of the area and owner of the property on which the school was built of stone in 1914. In 1931 the school needed a new furnace. In 1962 it was sold to Coloma school in 1961 for $1,200 and later sold to a private individual. One of 10 rural schools that annexed to Coloma Community Schools in 1962. Before annexation the school had been updated with a well, single seats replaced the double seats, and a telephone was installed and electricity. A stove was purchased a wash bowl, comb and towel, two brooks, pail and a dipper and a mirror. There was a celebration and then the school annexed to Coloma. Trails from Shingle Diggins |

In 1943 there were 67 one-room schools in Cass County. This school closed in 1960 and in 1968 the Cass County Historical commission leased the building from the district and began the process of renovation. Next a larger log school of walnut-plank was built. Finally in 1868 a brick school was built that is still standing today. It was called Bridge School and got its name from the Brucker bridge. In 1928 a Centennial Stone Tower was dedicated, marking 100 years of use. Consolidated to Dundee Community Schools in 1948. It was restored and has been the Township Hall since 1982. In 1957 the Dundee School Board deeded the property to the Monroe County Historical Society. A sign on the building says First Public School in Michigan. Also is a Michigan State Historical Site. Two years later in 1886 it burned-down. Later that year a frame school was built at a site called the Indian Sugar Bush. It had grades 1-8. The present building was erected in 1915. When most of the county schools consolidated about 1945, the Brown School consolidated to Marlette and it was moved to Marlette where it was placed on the grounds next to the High School. Also known as Coulter School after prominent property owners of the area. Fractional with Arthur School. By 1906 the enrollment was 50 students. In 1909 there were 200 books in the library. In February of 1915 Brown School burned to the ground. It appears that the replacement school was made of cobblestone. It was announced in 1933 that the new school is in No. 1 condition and will soon be designated a Standard School. In 1933 there was a vote to annex to Clare Schools but it failed. The school continued until 1956 when it was annexed to Clare. A list of teachers starts on page 207 of Clare County School Houses. One renovation was the indoor restrooms. The district consolidated with the Delton Kellogg School District in 1954.
